      Diamond Cutting Tools

    1. It is important to mention that a diamond cutting tool is not sharpened in the traditional sense. Diamonds are very hard and durable, so they will break or become scratched by common materials. The whole idea behind having a diamond blade is so it can cut the hardest materials on earth. If that is the case, then what can possibly sharpen it? Nothing. The diamonds in your blade do more grinding than cutting, and when they do wear down, the diamonds are supposed to fall out and be replaced by another right behind it, just like shark teeth.

      Sharpening the Blade

    2. The only way to sharpen a diamond cutting blade is to continue cutting with it, to wear out the dull diamonds and break them off. The diamonds are designed to fall out of the blade in an even succession, as the mortar-like mixture that holds them in place is worn away. Even cutting on materials that the blade is designed to cut through will always keep the blade sharp. When the blade goes dull, due to use on stronger materials than it was designed for, you need to cut more materials the blade was made to cut. This helps get rid of the dull diamonds and allows new ones to take their place.

      Sharpening Tips

    3. To effectively sharpen find several of the best materials your blade was made to cut. If it is designed for concrete, use concrete tiles and so on. Sharpening will not be a speedy process, as the blades are made to last. To help make it go a little faster, you should reduce the amount of lubricants you use while cutting. Reduce water flow to one-third or half the amount you would normally use. Then start cutting. The idea is to wear down the blade and break down the material inside of it, so new diamonds are exposed. Do not use harder materials, as this will prematurely wear out the diamonds and will not break down the mixture that holds them in place. For future uses, employ the right kind of blade for the task and your cuts will always be fast and quick.
