Diamond Cup Wheels combine a round plate (usually made of steel) with diamond particle segments attached. The diamond segments do the actual work while the steel plate offers rotational speed and force.

Diamond segments have two major components:the Grains (known as Grit) and the Bond. Grains do the actual cutting as abrasive while the bond holds the grains together.

The ratio of grain and bond and the spacing between the grains as well as the bond material provides the structure of the abrasive segments.
